Store-bought Free-Range Eggs are developing!

Are you going to candle them today to see how they're progressing?

I have candled, and all 9 are going strong.

They move around quite a bit, the little darlings. They are brown eggs, so more difficult to candle than any other egg I've hatched, aside from perhaps very large goose eggs. Even those aren't usually as bad, as they are white. But it is quite evident that the eggs are doing well. I'm a pretty experienced hatcher, so with some luck I should be able to hatch the majority of them. I can't count my chickens before they hatch, however, as the old saying goes.

This is so interesting, Adrian! I have some shipped eggs that are, I think, the same stage as your (I put them in on the morning of the 9th).

I received 15; as of tonight I could see 11 definitely alive, but a couple of those look...just...wrong. Like their blood vessels are all wonky. Or they're stuck to the shell or something. A couple of them (mostly those same) are looking smaller than they should be, and not moving vigorously when stimulated by the light. So....I'm not counting my chicks before they hatch, but I do expect that if they DO hatch, we'll be on lockdown together, you and I.

(I can't see into the two darker-shelled eggs I received, and a couple of the white-shelled eggs are pretty porous so I'm not sure what I'm seeing there either. I have so far removed only one egg as definitely a clear or early demise, and it had been received cracked but I sealed it with wax and tried anyway.)

Yep, I think mine went in on the 8th or 9th. I wish I could remember exactly, but it was so informal. I really thought none would develop. I'm very glad that I now have so many that are doing well.
