Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

How are your plants faring in the green house?

What did your goats and chickens think of the snow?

My chickens won't come out of the coop if the wind blows in a dusting of snow. But one of them sure likes to peck it off my boots!

We didn't have snow settle on the ground. It fell, but did not accumulate. I still haven't checked the greenhouse, even though I've been home more than 24 hours. Mostly it has turmeric and lemon grass, both easily replaced. Oh, and pineapple. Apparently none of the pots had ginger, I looked when we needed it for cooking. We have a LOT of turmeric.

The rest of the animals have seen worse, and generally ignored it - though the goats fear anything falling from the skies. Heavy fog, drizzle, rain, flurries, actual snow - doesn't matter.

We've been mid to high 20s overnight most of the past week, barely touching freezing over the weekend as the low, so it was well w/i the tolerable range.

Its good for color and pairs well with North African, Middle Eastern, Indian flavors. Some people make a tea with it, mostly used in various curries, typically dishes w/ veggies or poultry. Also makes biryani (a turmeric rice dish, often w/ a supporting flavor like garlic, or a contrasting flavor like peas or coconut).

You can also use turmeric to make fire cider, which is very handy this time of year. I made some for the chickens out of the scraps. Not sure if it helps but it doesn’t hurt
