Termites. or ants. or dry rot.

All of the above?

Had to replace the 8' dia round end post. Now using a pair of pt 4x4's tied together w 2x6s, and 200# of concrete. The fence it supports is only 350' long, should be sufficient.
Ground contact wood in the south has a very short life. I don't know how many fence posts we replaced over the years.

When we set posts now with concrete, we make sure there is a collar of concrete 1-2 inches above the ground surface. We've had so many posts rot and break off right at the surface of the ground. The collar of concrete seems to really slow this process down. We set some 6x6 posts for a shelter and my greenhouse. We made a wood form around the post and filled with concrete. These have done great.

The bunnies of the Apocalypse?

A friend of mine said it was much easier to dress out a rabbit than a chicken. Is that true, in your opinion?

No to the first, I haven't even bred them all yet. Famine is in with Snu Snu right now. And Pestilence is in with Bellum.

I took four of the five of Peanut Bunny's kits. Kept Chinchie, he's going to replace Snu Snu once Snu Snu has his last "hurrah" this three day weekend. Will likely take Peanut Bunny as well.

No to the second as well. Its not much easier. Its INCREDIBLY Easier. Laughably easier. As in, you can do it with your bare hands and nothing else, if you have to - but a sharp rock would be nice.

Honestly, two nearderthals sitting in a cave, one has a rabbit, or has a chicken.

Neanderthal with rabbit looks to one with chicken, "Why bother?" Other neanderthal looks back, "Uuugh." shrugs shoulders, keeps plucking.

If not for the ability to cram hundreds of chickens into an equal number of square feet with only modest behavioral problems, modern man would have rabbit many meals instead of chicken. Can't do that with rabbits, the girls would kill one another - and most of the boys, too.

War and Pestilance. What might that pairing produce...? The killer Rabbit from Monty Python's Holy Grail? :)

Does rabbit meat get tough(er) as the animal ages, as chicken does?

How long do you age them in the chill chest?

teh Rabbit of Caerbannog! he's got big pointy teeth!!!!

Yes, yes it does. Much gamier flavor, too.

3 days. That may be overkill, but it works, so that's what we are sticking with.

Lack of fat on rabbits also prevents them from being as common a meal due to health risks of over consumption

Decent amount of fat on mine - just not IN mine. Like the chickens, didn't seem to be a lot of intramuscular fat - but did have the same parallel lines of white fat in the abdominal cavity that I get in my goats, and two parallel lines over the tops of the thighs, extending upwards along the spine. I understand why bunny would be good on a spit roast, with those bits of fat melting all over the meat as it cooks.

and yes, rabbit is otherwise LEAN.
