Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Probably not accomplishing much on the homestead today.
I'm somewhere on this map. "The Wiregrass"

The well pump could use a break. But did just pick up 500# of feed and two lynch pins for the tractor impliments. $136. So, its not a completely worthless day so far.

It blows my mind when I see the whitetail deer here eating raspberry and blackberry canes, spruce tips, and wild rose canes.

I'm curious as to how they do it without ending up with a mouthful of blood.

The same way I can now pull topical soda apple with bare hands. The skin gets tough. Very tough. Goats the same. The roof of their mouth must be like Marty Raney's hands...

I've looked at Marty Raney's hands and then put lotion on mine. Ouch. Being such a delicate flower as I am, I wear gloves for garden chores and housework.

We used to watch that show all the time. I don't know if it's not on channels we get now, or what. We laugh about Misty Raney's name. Then one of us will start singing "One Misty Moisty Morning." (Song by Steeleye Span.)

Do you have garlic planted this year? I just finished cutting all the scapes on mine. I will digging a test bulb sometime in the next few days.

It's a little early, but I *need* some fresh garlic!

I do, next to my scallions. Haven't done much gardening of late, we've had inches and inches and inches of water from the sky. If things aren't rotted, and not eaten by the hornworms (all my tomatoes), they are being overgrown by weeds so tall I can't even see the asparagus plantings!

[Yes, there IS asparagus iin this picture, promise! (a full dozen plants)]

My acres of weeds are getting tall too - taller than the chickens, the ducks, and as tall as the shortest goats. As soons as they grasses drop more seeds, I'm taking the flail mower to it, knocking it down to 6" or so. Its 15-18" right now, 20" in places.

Goats ate my attempts to sprout 50# of feed corn, and 40# of oats.
