Storms, Weather alert radio & tornado stuff..

We bought a brand new house that had a structural floor because of the clay soil. It was all wired for a sump pump with a barrel and all. I was finishing the basement and pulled up the trap door. The sump hole was full of water and I noticed an outlet on the wall with no cord for the sump. The builder had put a sump in for inspection than pulled it and put it in another house. They had to dig the dirt out under the floor an extra 2 feet and bring in new dirt then put a liner through the whole area. No mold was detected.

If I was the OP I would just let the water flood in and pump it out when the rain stops. It's not like the house will sink or anything.

Yeah but the water stinks! I remember my grandfather's house which always flooded until they modify the roof and added another two foot foundation all around, cost Grandpa well over $12,000 back in the 80's along with the physical labor of all of his sons helping out. Today it still floods now and then but not as bad as it used to be.

Keep in mind I know nothing about these but I've heard of them. Sump pumps. Would they be of help in a situation like yours?

Yes; but it is about $8,000 to get one put in, they'd have to dig my basement floor up, install it, put it back together etc...

and to completely waterproof my basement would be abotu $10-12,000 ugh

Momagain,

We just used something simular to this when our basement flooded. We never had anything installed, we would just sit it on the floor and plug it in and and run a hose up the stairs and outside. The water was never very deep though just a couple inches at the most.
