Awww My brother and I had pet rats. They were always so fun (except when they peed on you! haha). The best thing about rats is they are very hardy, unlike hampsters.
i love my babies, when we used to live in DE we were right by a pet store and we would pick 2 rats to come and just sit on our shoulders while we walked around the store, we SCARED alot of people lol
the second one, swizzle, and the third one, skittle, are moms. the fourth one is skittles daughter, she had 11 but they all died but two, bisquet and templeton, but we coulden't keep the boys. the rest are swizzles kids, alltogether she had 18 but we only kept 2. we gave the rest to a pet store, but when we got home there were 3 so we kept them. the top is casey, when she was just born she accidentaly wandered into the wrong nest and the other mom (skittle) swiped at her and now she is blind in one eye. the solid black one is squeek and the last one is my baby daisy, shes the runt
I love rats too - have had several over the years, but none currently...
They aren't really "Strange" pets are they? Maybe i'm just strange..... hmmmmmmmmm
May i say to anyone considering buying a pet rat PLEASE i mean PLEASE buy a feeder rat, no accually buy 2, they love company and if your nat able to hold then 10 hours a day---literaly, then they need a friend, buy feeder rats though so they don't get fed to snakes, i know it would happen in the "wilderness" any way, but i can't stand the thought of my beautiful babies in the stomach of a SNAKE! also do not put them in a glass aquariam, it doesn't provide enogh ventalation, as well as using cedar, it is bad for there respitory system and9 out of 10 wil NOT survie, just a bit of ratty trivia
glad you think there cute i can put on a few more pics if you want
I had a pet squirrel when I was a kid and I helped raise a moose calf (Bruce). I hatched out ducklings and had a pet rooster as a kid too. I've had a rat. I have a reptile crazy son so will probably end up with a beared dragon. He wants a snake, but I am a little squeamish about the snake food thing. I also have been told snakes are not good kid pets. Everyone tells me that a bearded dragon is a good starter reptile, may be a turtle for the pond would be a better start. I'n not ready. Current pets: 3 indoor cats, 4 outdoor pullets, 8 pond goldfish, one minnow, and two wild boys.
All soooo cute.. When I was little my sister and I found a baby duckling that had just hatched swimming like mad before going over the little darn that we were fishing by. We used a fish net to catch him before he was washed away. We looked everywhere but couldnt find a momma anywhere with little ones so we took him home. I named him peaches and he would fallow me everywhere while I swatted flys to feed him. Then I put him in my aquarium since I had a ton of baby guppies in there. He went to town on those. My dad took me down to the river and we sained a ton of minnows and took them home and put them in the bath tub for peaches to eat. My mom didnt have a tub for about 3 months..LOL Peaches would run into the bathroom and wait by the tub when he was hungry and then churp when he was done. Finally when he was getting good wing feathers we turned him loose. About 4 years later my sister called me to say that she thought peaches had come home. There was a huge malard duck in her back yard where we had turned him loose. I was extatic and headed straight down there. I scooped him up and hugged him. The only bad part was that the next day there were 3 peaches. Come to figure out someones farm ducks had gotten away and landed in my sisters back yard. At least I thought he had come home for a little while... We try to stick the the common animals now.. Jenn
