I have a group of thirteen assorted breeds of duck. twelve of them are female and they are almost fully developed. I recently had two of the ducks separated from the others and they were fine to each other.but as soon as they were reintroduced to the flock they started fighting each other. Is this just them establishing a pecking order or something more

Anytime you separate a flock bird and then reintroduce it the hierarchy must be re-settled, it's normal. With certain individuals it can be carried over into mutilations and fatalities but normally it should be settled quickly. Around puberty is not a good time to rearrange the hierarchy generally as they're beginning to have more serious squabbles around that time.

Best wishes.

X 2 - keep an eye on them and make sure things don't cross from one side of that line to the other.
