Strange new breed

funny, if you think of them as owls they look almost normal - yeah, almost, except for that crazy mouth. Does it hinge wide open like a snakes to eat little animals? Are there really birds of prey?! Can you really keep them with chickens?! Ack!

I'm glad someone knew what they really were.

My friend in Australia knows I have been into raising chickens, and thought he would pull one over on me. He called them his eucalyptus chickens, when he e-mailed me the picture. He mentioned that they keep the mice problem around the coop to a minimum. He said the eggs looked like regular white chicken eggs.

When I e-mailed him back telling him what they are really called, he confessed it was all a joke. Bloody Kiwi!

It did make my skin crawl to look at that picture...

I really have to go to that country one of these days, just to see all the strange animal species they have. Can you imagine what the first europeans must have thought when they saw a kangaroo for the first time.

Especially if a Joey had it's head sticking out of the pouch. That must have been freaky...
