Strange Rooster taking up residence in my yard

Very nice looking. I agree that it is a Game Chicken. Looks young about 1 1/2 years old. I know you said straight comb, but from the pics it looks like a pea comb.

Youve got a gourgeous grey stag(looks like to Me)! He may be mixed due to feather coloring. He is deffinately american game. Hes a keeper and I would snatch him up ^^

Here are some better pics of the comb on this roo. He has been letting me get a little closer to him the last couple of days for a closer look. I apologize if I have mistated his comb style. Now, thanks to the informative replies about his breed, my main concern is with the temperment of this breed would It be wise to let him in with my back yard flock, even after a greeting period of a couple of weeks. Would he need to be tethered to a pole or something to prevent fighting with other roos? It may more than I want to deal with. He is not agressive towards me or anyone else but I am not sure about other roos and hens. Maybe I want have to deal with him, he found his way to my yard maybe he will get bored here and move on to somone elses yard.

Yep that is a pea comb. As for your backyard flock, if he is a true game it would be wise to keep away from other cocks - hens will be OK. As for him getting bored with your yard, it's hard to say, you own birds so he may stick around and make himself part of the flock.
