My 1.25 yr old Amerucana has been laying soft eggs for the last month or so? I feed them fermented organic grains (Scratch n Peck Layer) and they have oyster shell available. This is the second time I’ve gotten an egg like this though. With the part of a second egg attached. Is it beyond just a calcium deficiency? She was a one of my best layers, she laid eggs all winter when most of the other girls stopped. Her eggs would regularly have calcium deposits on them when she was laying shelled eggs. Maybe this is related? This egg had the beginning of a shell, like a sticky calcium paste. Some have been just soft eggs, a few have had holes like where the next egg tube is coming out from. It’s so weird! I appreciate any insight and help! Thank you

hello @BarryTheBold ! welcome to BYC :frow
It looks like there is something not quite right in her shell gland. One of my best layers does this as she goes into molt, as if she really should have stopped laying to concentrate on feather production but tries to do both, and ends up with soft shelled eggs for a month or so before taking a break. Normal eggs resume after molt in her case, so it's not a hopeless situation :bow And again, like yours, the rest of my flock lay perfectly normal eggs, so it's not about diet or environment, it is peculiar to that bird.

So after this, she had laid what is considered a lash egg- she laid several actually. I am just figuring this out now- and she has since stopped laying because of molting and does still seems lethargic on some days. How would be the best way to give her doxycycline that I have in a pill form? I read that you should add it to their water, but she is in with 14 other birds and I don't want to dose everyone. Could I give her the recommended 25mg/pound via tablet in food- much like a dog?

You should start a new thread in the disease forum here.
Would be good to include pics of sliced open lash eggs.
Not sure doxy would be the go-to AB tho...but others there will know.
