Strange Tracks in Pen *Logical Conclusion on Page 46*

This is a great website! I think I found what made the tracks in your coop! It's not really Fluffy, it's a Harbor Seal!

great website! You know, if we hadn't already determined it to be Fluffy, both the ringtail and the spotted skunk are found in NorCal and they both carry their tails low enough to often obscure their tracks. And they are very small, not much bigger than fluffy, so they could hide in that same spot. Spotted skunks can fit through almost any sized hole there is - I had one in a cat carrier once, one of those cardboard ones with the small row of holes at the top? and it got out, in my car. I had to create a special carrier (we call it the Fort Knox carrier) to transport it anywhere, it looks like something you would put Hannibal Lecter in. (if he were very very small and stinky)

I would be very envious if you had either one of them. I have only ever seen them in the wild once, each.

Sorry i haven't posted in a couple of days. i've been really sick. So Fluffy has had the run of the pen sans traps and cams. And since she is so crafty, i don't think i will ever catch her in a trap. And i really don't have it in me to do a snap trap. So my DH is going to flood under the coop while i sit at the back with a pellet gun. It's either that or wait for her to move out on her own, and i doubt that is going to happen.

maryellenks - That's very funny - a small stinky Hannibal Lector.

i know we have a regular size skunk, Stinky. It lives somewhere around here and shows up every so often. You can smell it coming sometimes in the early evening. i always wondered what one is supposed to do if they find a skunk breaking into their pen or coop. You wouldn't want to scare it. i'm just glad it wanders through and keeps going.

one of those sticky boards may work. It is not a very pleasant way to catch any thing, but it may work. For a rat though I recommend use 2 big boards. I had run out of tricks to catch rats when I lived in TX. You catch one and they all learned from it, you poisoned one and none of the others would touch the poison again. I would flavor it with hot dogs and only one rat again and none of the others would touch it again. They are very smart buggers, it is a shame they are so destructive

otherwise they might be need little entertainers running around

Good luck with the flooding, let us know the outcome

R.I.P. Fluffy

i flooded under the playhouse and my DH got Fluffy. It was a clean shot to the head and she died quickly, which is better than a lot of alternative methods. Although, it wasn't pretty.

And we now know that it was Mrs. Fluffy, as several small grey babies poked their heads out. Hmmmmmm. i never caught the babies on the game cam so i suspect it was mom bringing food back. Don't know when they are old enough to be on their own. i am hoping they will come out from under the shed on their own and a cat or owl will take care of them. And, don't know how many there are under there. It's gotta be very wet under there.

Sorry to all the rat lovers out there. But i couldn't have her waltzing around the pens every night. i'll still put the cam out tonight to see if the little ones come out or if there was a Mr. Fluffy under there.

I guess you "relocated" her just in time.... babies already. Wowzer! you were getting ready to have an excess of live-ins you didn't want. Hope the babies are too young to figure it out in their own. You may be doing more flooding in the future.
Good job on your DH's part, that's quite a shot.
Thanks for the "Daily Rat Soap", it has been fun
