In the middle of the yard. Not in a corner, not near any kind of container, no privacy whatsoever...just right smack dab in the middle of the yard. Was she walking around and it just fell out???
I have found egg stashes in lots of weird places but I guess the oddest place is in a Rubbermaid wastebasket that had a bag of chicken poop, in it, that I hadn't thrown out yet. I still have 2 hens that lay in that wastebasket (on hay instead of manure) and one broody hen spent a few weeks in it. The other hens just sat on top of her to lay their eggs.
I don't remember if it was on this forum or the other one that someone mentioned that she had a bantam that laid it's eggs in the hip socket space (not sure what it's called) of a cow!!
In the middle of untidy teenage son's unmade bed. Son woke up in the morning to find a slimy, scrunched-shell mess in bed with him. I am surprised that he even noticed the mess!
I have found eggs stashed under the mower's mulch bag (we never use it, it just lays around whever I move it this week....)
and I have found a few in the space between the a/c unit and the house
Dog's food bowl, craftsman tool cabinet, goat's mineral holder, aquarium in storage in the barn, inside a roll of rolled up field fencing, in an old tire, in the middle of the yard, in the bbq grill, when they free range out of the "yard" they are liable to be anywhere!!!
I find an egg pretty often inside the feeder (one of the galvanized ones TSC sells). There must be one hen that straddles the feeder and plops one down in there. It is regular enough I look in there every night now.
