Stray dog attack... ending in a shoot out!

I am so sorry that you lost 2 of your birds!

Ultimately the correct and right thing happened to those dogs. If they were strays they should be put down anyway and because they behaved like they did it didn't matter if they were strays or not, they still needed to be put down. The dogs were obviously a menace.

Times are tough, and people are loosing their homes right and left. Sadly, they seem to think nothing of walking off and leaving their animals to fend for themselves. They can't rent an apartment with a couple of dogs.

We had a neighbor leave two pit bulls behind. They went unfed and unwatered for about three weeks. They pretty much terrorized the neighborhood roaming the streets and alleys, living off of what they could find.

Finally, some lady from the lending institution came to check the house. They kept her bottled up in her car until animal control came out and took the dogs. Why would animal control do this for a bank and not us or our neighbors?

The neighbor should have had to good sense to have the dogs put down before he left.

Sorry for the loss of your birds, and being attacked, good thing they took care of you by protecting you.

I wouldn't want to be in that situation....I'm glad the sheriff took care of the dogs...before anyone else got hurt.

If I had to guess, those were dumped pets rather than loose pets. The ones that survive tend to get really people aggressive. We're seeing A TON of those in our area, and that's why my future peeps won't be free-ranging

But yeah, you send that officer a nice note.

Thanks for that suggestion. I will definitely add that to the letter I have to write out as part of the police report.

Sorry for your loss.

We had a similar situation but none of our ducks got attacked. My wife and daughter were cornered and almost attacked by the neighbors two dogs. I was feeding my dog soon after that and they cornered me from two sides. We called animal control (county sheriff's dept) and all we got out of it was a free trip to court (aggressive animal citation). The "jury" was three people from a different end of the county and the "judge" was another animal control officer. The original officer didn't show up even though he sided with us and said they were aggressive. It was sided on their side. They were told their dogs must be fenced and have to stay on their property. That has been almost a year now and there is still no fence...they just tie the dogs up on a rope. I was incredibly irritated with the situation and told one of the other officers as we were leaving that the dogs best not be back on my property or I'll deal with them like they didn't. He agreed.

Long story short...I'm glad you don't have to worry anymore about your problem.

Thanks again, everyone! After reading other stories, I am now even more grateful how quick law enforcement responded and acted to our situation.

Today I will be searching for a new home for my other guinea... poor thing is still out there calling for her mate! I want to keep her but I know she needs to be around other guineas!

Thanks again!
