Just received my early bird catalog from them. I ordered from them decades ago. I was curious what others experiences with them have been. I'm reading I get put on a list for seasonal poultry like geese and they send them when they get them? I see no minimum on the geese either. Thanks for any advice.

All of my Bantams are from Strombergs. It was my first time ordering chicks! I ordered 30 of six different breeds. They sent me 33. This was back in July. One was DOA. A second was dead within hours of arriving. A third was injured but I nursed him back to health those first three weeks. The rest have been incredibly healthy, strong and wonderful. I know so much more than I did back then...but I have to say it was an overall positive experience. I think my birds are really beautiful, too-- not in a bragging way-- I mean, they do look like they come from strong breeding stock. Mine are strictly pets and I don't anticipate raising chicks... but who knows. I live in a city on a tiny lot, so I do have limitations. I found homes for thirteen cockerels and kept sixteen pullets and two cockerels. I don't know if I'd ever do this again, but I have nothing bad to say about Strombergs.

Thank you for your input. I like that they sent extras. Sounds like you had a good experience. Did you get an order shipment date right away or did they let you know when. I should probably look at their website.

If I remember correctly, they took maybe two or three days to give me an exact ship date. I think they only ship on Mondays. I could be remembering that wrong. They were very good about answering emails and easy to contact by phone. When I was trying to save the second chick, they advised me not to waste money on going to the vet. That made me sad...but they were right. And when I took the injured chick to the vet--the vet was no help anyway. He just said to continue wrapping the legs as I was already doing. It seems to me like finding a good chicken vet is challenging. I've gone twice now and it's been an incredible waste of money. But about Strombergs--sorry I got off topic! I'm not convinced it's going to care a lot about each chick. Smaller hatcheries I'm sure are the more ethical way to go. I don't know if Strombergs has limits to weather extremes and shipping... you know what I mean? I think a lot of the hatcheries are just about making money now that I've educated myself more. I was very lucky and I did get a phone call from my post office at 5am and picked up my chicks by 5:30am. They took two days to get to me.

I have read good things about them. I also read they were having some problems fulfilling orders for a while due to some health issues in one of the owner I believe. I think I have, and you have already talked me into putting in my goose order with them. Husband say I can get 6 more. :) I was considering 3, but will take him up on his offer.

Wonderful!! I’m going to get a guard goose someday. I’ll remember to ask you about it first!
