Another solution would be get more roosters, you wouldn't need as many, but they are noisier and don't lay any eggs.Welcome to BYC!
It's good that you were able to get it in a dog crate, as it probably would have been killed wandering around. I'm *pretty sure* *someone correct me if I'm wrong* you can feed it some scrambled eggs, or some plain oatmeal. If you were to start your own flock, you would need to get 6 or 7 chicks and wait for them to grow up before you can introduce them. If you can get grown hens from anywhere, that would be good. You would also need to build them a coop to live in outside.
So an update. The person I left a note with me did call me, but it wasn't her rooster. She posted on a facebook group, and apparently found the owner. I just checked on him he is sleeping the night away, and tomorrow I hope to have him reunited with him family.
