Stupid LG!!! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

I bought a LG and sat down & read every single word on the enclosed instructions. in fact read them more than once. Set it up until temp reached 99 and added eggs, since then the only time it is opened is when I add water. they are due to hatch on 6/26. if they hatch i will be very happy, If not, I will try again.I am not an expert on bators, I would much rather the hens did the job but since they won't I'll try. nothing tried, nothing gained. marrie

I love my LG still air! Day 19 and I have 100% chicks with my eggs and slightly less with mailed eggs. I stabilized it for 2 days before I got my eggs then didn't touch the temp control after that. I noticed small spikes and drops but nothing more that a degree. I figured the hen gets on and off the nest, no use in worrying over everything and that it may actually be better for the chicks to get temp variances like they would under mom.

I am sorry you are having problems with your LG.

I also had a 114 temp spike, but that was before I got my eggs in.

I'm sorry for jumping the way I did. I just wanted to the set record straight that I did everything per instructions. I have had my LG since last September and did not hatch in it until April of this year for a couple of reasons: 1) Did not want babies this winter with it being so cold and 2) I wanted to make sure that I knew what I was doing and was allowing myself plenty of time to read the manuals as well as read on here about dos and don'ts from my fellow BYC'ers.

Like I said, DH is going to take this stupid thing apart, with my blessing, after next week and see what he can do to fix it. I'm a very frugal person so if this stupid thing can be salvaged in some shape/form/fashion, it will be.

I'm glad to hear that yours will not go that high. I don't want anyone to go through what I did. That's one of the reasons I posted here. I know a lot of people have had success with the LGs, but I guess, at this time, I'm not one of them. I wish I were because then I would be getting to have a lot of MP's BBS Orpington babies running around my brooder instead of a bunch of dead eggs that I have to throw away.

My apologies if you took it that way. Was not meant to be condescending. What it was meant to be for a lot of newbies that are reading the posts and maybe not posting drive home a point or problem. Most including myself when new have a hard time leaving the thermostat alone and fidget with it. The LG is a affordable incubator for a lot of people and is not perfect. But they do work in most cases, in eastTN case obviously has a flawed unit. I am sure the Genesis is worth the money, but they are not usually available and cost more than some can afford. Also my first post I was trying to be a little humorous too, and some did not find it so, so as I did to eastTN I apoligize.

WalkingWolf, Thankyou and I apoloiize to you for misundering what you were saying, I wish I had all the information you put in this post, when I was trying to work the LG! I have read that alot of people have had good luck with theres I just wasn't one of them, its really too bad too cause I could have used that extra money I spent on the Genesis to buy more hatching eggs!LOL. Anyway again Thankyou for the apology and the explaination and I hope everyone no matter what bator there using has happy hatching experiences. Sandy:D

Of my incubators, three are LGs and work okay, the only problem I have now is in my opinion, the heating element went out on one entirely too soon.
However, when I first started with an LG I hadnt got the hang of it yet and the hatches were pretty poor until I did.
I believe you are right in thinking its short circuiting, its too bad they dont put a warranty out on these things, maybe then they would worry more about quality.

MagsC ~ ITA. If there was a warranty on them, I believe that they would definitely work better because they wouldn't want to have to keep replacing them.
