I thought the hatch day was next Saturday, I didn't write it down, but was pretty sure. I have a Brinsea Octagon 20 ECO with and auto-turner, works nice.

Tonight I went into my egg shed to check water level and general placement of 8 Blue Ameraucana eggs, chicken color and egg color, from Julie, and I can not see her last name in my head, but she has a beautiful website and sells lots of eggs. Well it looked to me that two of the eight eggs piped and I am hearing peeping from those two.

I immediately took the incubator from the turning cradle, removed the egg holding brackets and set the eggs on their sides and added some hot water to the troughs for increased humidity.

What else should I do, or what is, specific to this situation, good to look-out for. Like since the humidity was not increased for the last three days of the hatch cycle, will that cause a problem? Will the turning of the eggs till the last day, hatch day, cause a problem?

Name it, I have all morning Sunday to watch the hatch and help out if that is possible. Thanks, Ron

NO HELP, well only as a last resort. Let nature take it's course. You have added water now and as the eggs hatch the humidity will rise. Not much else to do on a Sundy morning but watch your chicks hatch. That is until the preacher finds out why you are not in church.

Just keep it closed and let the chips land where they fall, or rather, let the peeps hatch from their shells! Many a chick has hatched in a turner on accident so I bet they'll be fine.

Those two that were piped have hatched, the first at about 1:00am and the second at about 9:00am this morning. The other six are not showing any promise yet. I do not candle eggs, I just give them 25 days and then they are disposed of. This is an exception, I usually have times and weights and exact numbers on first to hatch and times between each hatch.

I will have a good hatch, and I think there was no harm done on the timing mistake. The hatch will be finished in 4 days and I will have the totals out of eight eggs set and mistakes included.

I have to say that Brinsea makes hatching a lot more idiot proof. From 5 groups of shipped eggs, I have a better than 88% hatch rate. The first group, sent from Texas were Barnevelders and I got 12 chicks from 12 eggs, that all grew to be 12 big chickens. First time hatching and I had to give away 10 to make more room for new hatches.

Looks like number 3 and 4 are piping now, and the first two are trying to wake up the rest of them.
