Those stupid kids just knocked my mailbox down again. I just fixed this stupid thing. I swear the filling my mailbox with concrete option is sounding better every day.

Blah, broken windows in a big city, graffiti in a medium city, random stupid vandalism in a small town, what the heck is it with people? What possible enjoyment comes from the wanton destruction of other people's property?

You have to be careful because there is a fine line between making your mailbox sturdy and what the police consider assault. (filling it with concrete)

My in laws have made theirs "non permanent" it stands next to ours which is in with a really big mailbox post and concrete.

Theres is in a huge tub filled with a LOT of gravel. We need the tractor to move it. Don't get me wrong, it's been knocked down off the road if a car hits it, but we wrap some chains around it and drag it back up. If it's dented we take it back up to the house and bang it out.

My husband and I priced those indestructible mailboxes, they cost about $200-300. We decided that for the amount of times we could just bang dents out of the $19 Home depot one, and replace it... it would take us 5 or 10 years to spend that $200-300.

Ours has never been knocked down, but probably because my in-laws takes the impact first.

I think these kids think it's fun because their parents never make them pay for the damage. If they were made to be responsible when they broke something at home, or at a close neighbors then they would know that property costs money to someone and they wouldn't vandalize.

My daughter is right now in the process of earning enough money to pay for yet another pair of TaiKwonDo arm protectors. She "left" them in the back room then got sick. They throw away gear that's left and not claimed. She stated this made it not her fault because she couldn't go back to claim it. I told her that because she A)Left it band B)informed no one that she left it so that anyone had the chance to claim it THAT made it her fault. Therefore it's HER $20 not MY $20 that will pay for the new gear. She thinks it's not fair, I think life's not fair. She then told me she needed a new TKD shirt. I asked why and she told me her current one was getting worn out. I told her no problem I'd pay for it. She looked shocked. I told her I have no problem paying for worn out gear.

Punks knocked down my grandma's mailbox,and THEN started going through our mail !!!

Luckily our cousin (state trooper) lives right down the road from us saw them doing it and arrested them.They were only 13-14.He said their mom gave them a good beatin and they haven't been back.

You could mount it like we do in the north, so the snowplow doesn't take it out.

You don't have to buy that sort of mount, it's not hard to make it from plumbing pipes. That and a plain ol' mailbox or a rubbermaid one.

Most of the ones I've seen had much longer mouting arms, and were higher up. Must not snow much in Maine.

Fill up a large box with concrete, put a smaller one inside and let it stand. Mail boxes around here are anywhere from a pole with a box to a brick enclosure with a drop slot. Some are in half barrels filled with flowers, and even others are against or in concrete walls. Just make sure the box itself is approved and you're good to go!


As far as I'm concerned with a concrete mail box being assault, the box was there first. How many times have you seen someone sue the telephone company or the tree a car ran into during an accident.

Around here the justice system has NO problem with super-indestructable mailboxes.

Besides, I don't think the punks want to admit HOW it happened anyway.
