Go to the correct forum (i.e.-incubating and hatching, feeding time, raising baby chicks) and click the 'post new topic' button in the top right of the screen.

When I was a vet tech, our vaccines were delivered in styrofoam coolers just like those. I would contact local vets in your area, I am sure they would be happy to give them to you for free! (we had so many, we were throwing them out weekly!)

I have a ton of these as I used to get HGH in coolers every month. They are very sturdy -- I use them to space shelves to hold plants out on my deck.

Our Walmart has these HUGE styro chests on clearance for $15. It's the exact same chest Miss Prissy used to make her Chic Chick Bator, but twice that size. That sucker could hold about 8 dozen eggs. I am going to go today and get one or two of them, before they sell out.

Here's some more updated pictures! I added the turner now! Yay! It's above the light bulb and all I have to do is turn the handles and it will turn.

And when it's time for the eggs to stop turning(day 18) I can easily slip the turner out and the eggs will be placed in the bottom where they can hatch. Now all I have to do it cover the light and bowl of water with wire, and add the window+temp./hum. gauges and I'm good to go!

Here's the turner in the bator:(sorry for the blurry picture!

So far, so good! Maybe I will finish in time to hatch one batch of babies before winter!

Thanks! I was looking for that thread...
Ya, I got that idea from the Gopher-Bator.

Working well so far! I'm now testing it and seeing how hot it gets in there. I am gonna have to be careful, though, since it's cooler up top than in the bottom...unless the heat rises? maybe that will happen....I am gonna put the temp./hum. gauges up top, that way I can get a more accurate temp. for the eggs. I was thinking about doing the water wiggler method, but I don't have the right temp./hum. gauges.

OK, I put the temp./hum. digital thingy in there to test it, and to get a more accurate reading, I put it up in the turner, where the eggs will be. Now I just have to let that adjust...
will update on it later!

Houston, we have a problem.

Temp. seems to be really high! when i came back and checked on it like 15-20 minutes after turning the light on, the temp. was 103* F.

I have a 40 watt bulb in there, so maybe I should try a 20-30 watt...

Luckily we have lots of bulbs laying around.
