Submit your ideas on helping beat winter boredom in the coop/run

One warning with the flock block. I just threw the remains of mine out, because it gave a few of my girls diarrhea. They were just too focused on it. Luckily, I don't have boredom issues. I have six extra cockerels instead. Too bad they look just about ready to eat.

I bought one of those flock blocks too a few years back.....NEVER again. Not only was it a complete WASTE my girls also got diarrhea. It is not a good product.

well i won't be buying any for sure! don't need that problem.
wasn't really interested in spending 10 dollars on a treat product anyway

just never heard of it and was curious about it.

I buy mine about 2 dozen crickets from the pet store, turn them loose and see how fast the birds want the bugs. Not sure if it entertains them, or me more. Ah well, does it really matter so long as I can laugh? lol

I forgot to put yeast in a loaf of bread in my bread machine and turned out a solid brick of "bread." The hens loved it and pecked at it for hours! (It was really hard.)

I love to hang a cabbage or lettuce head from the roof of my run leaving it about a foot or so off the ground the guys and girls will "shadow box" with this for hours or until it is completely gone. It's hilarious to watch

skand..i was gonna suggest that... go buy 1000 crickets (pet store or direct from grower) .. it is very entertaining also..

i give tiny crickets to my dayold chicks.. the crickets jump around stimulating their PECK response AND crickets are a good source of protein.. the chicks that eat the crickets never die on me..
you can also 'dust" (or gutload) the crickets with calcium and vit. makes them xtra good to eat

I paid the extra 10 cents once to dust the crickets for our savannah moniter lizard. She just looked at me like I was crazy. Our gerbil loves them, I swear she knows when I head to the petstore, she's always up and looking at me when I come in her room.

Flock block has mollassas in it and will give them the poops.
I bake my own and they love it.

3 eggs, some milk, mash in some bread, corn meal, dry baby cereal, oats , scratch, oyster shell, grit, wild bird seed witn sunflower seeds and some honey.

Spread in a cake pan and bake at 3oo untill good an dry. I cut it uo into sqaures and let dry ouy more on the counter over nite. Then I bag them and put in fridg untill I want to give it to them. I usually let it st at room temp awhil before I take it out as it is so cold right now.

Try it and you will think of putting other stuff in it as well.
