Awww... glad to see you joined! Maybe you could get in contact with some BYC members near you, so that if something should happen to you they could take your birds for you. Look in the "where am I, where are you?" section for your state's thread.
I truly think BYC attracts people who think alike-simple folk, if you will, brought together by a common love for anything poultry (or, in some cases, someone looking to get RID of someone else's poultry!). People who want to live a slower-paced lifestyle.

I totally agree with what you're saying, by the way. I have never stuck with one forum or another for more than a couple of months, never went past maybe 10 or 20 posts. I was always scared to talk to the regulars and old folks on other forums, because they seemed like the type who'd laugh at a newbie who doesn't know anything in particular.

Not here, it's great, you can jump right in and everyone welcomes you into their arms.
For a while, at least. Then you become an old folk and start doing the welcoming yourself.

I've reached that stage... stick with it, you'll be there before you know it. Lovely place.
