I found my comet red girl dead today in her nesting box. Her head was drooped over and her feet were curled under. We are in southeastern Pennsylvania. We had our first really cold week and I think it’s her first winter. We bought her as a pullet in May. She seemed fine. I don’t see any injuries. They have had slower egg laying but I assumed that was due to the winter. Any ideas? How would I know if she was egg bound?

I am sorry for your loss.

Can you open her belly area up and take clear pictures?

What exactly did you feed her on a regular basis?

Do you mean cut her open?

we feed her laying pellets. Scratch and apple cores for treats. We let them free feed oyster shells and Manna probiotic grit. Her eyes were white when I found her. Otherwise she seemed very normal.

I am wondering if you fed too many treats too often which can cause problems.

Can you open her up?
