I would ask for hen feed or layer feed. Usually the feed store will know what you mean by layer feed. I also agree with the chick developer when they are molting. Either that or anything with meat scraps in it from the kitchen. Free Range is awesome, but if you don't have a huge yard, they decimate the bug population (their natural source of protein) pretty quickly. When we moved into our house this spring we had ant and termite problems in the shed. We put their fence around the shed, and by June you couldn't find an ant or termite ANYwhere!
