Sumatra Thread!

Btw she is very tame, even when she gets a bit broody... Lol, then you just have a fat version of her clucking at you for the rest of your sandwich.
She is a pretty bird and if you are happy with her then
it does not matter if she is a mix..........enjoy her

Hi there I 'm new to Sumatra chickens and i was planning on getting some but i heard they have dark meat and and are flighty, so my question here do they really have dark meat like silkie chickens and are they really flighty and which hatchery should i get it from cause i only want 4 but most hatchery need at least 15 and i don't want to pay extra too.

Redjunglefowl Sumatras do not have dark meat like a silkie. Sumatras can be flighty if not handled much, but so are most other chickens if brought up the same way. But just like other chickens that are handled alot, sumatras can be tame.

nope that's right, silkies and cemani as well as other breeds are fibro melanistic. Which means they are black from one end to the other. Skin, meat, bones, organs, everything.
Sumatras are just gypsy faced, but the skin is yellow. Any black meat bird will show clear obvious black skin as well. It's really easy to check for.
and nope, agree also, they are no more flighty than any other breed, all depends on how they were raised.
