agreed. Very well behaved roo's toward people. They are exelent roosters to their hens, yet docile toward people. ABSOLUTELY my favorite chicken. And the broody's. My oh my, do my girls go broody. Repeat broody as well. Love these birds!

Same experience here, had about 8 to 10 different roosters in the last year and a half and finally we have one that isn't charging us all the time. It's a 2-3 year old Sumatra.

All the rest of them lasted between 2 weeks and 2 months before they got sold or eaten due to aggression.

I know what you mean. We had already eaten one several weeks before due to being aggressive towards us.
We have 5 hens and they are fine. No aggressive behaviors. The cockerel with them does a dance and trips over wings when we go into the pen but has not attacked us. The cockerel in the garage room is not showing signs of aggressiveness either but he has brown in his wings. Holding onto to him to see if is goes away so we can show him.

What patterns have you seen with the pullets starting to lay for the first time? Ours are 27 weeks old and have not began to lay yet.

Did you post pics anywhere?

I'll try to get a new one tomorrow. Good news though, whatever it is, it squatted for Max today. Eggs should be soon!

My friend Raven has some beautiful Sumatras, in BBS. She says she might give me some of her birds this fall! I love the breed, they are certainly gorgeous!

looks like a black austrolop/Sumatra (maybe) mix.

+1 also, definite female there

yes, without a doubt

and she is quite beautiful. I have two 3 month old Sumatra/Black Austrolop mix hens I purposely bred as an experiment. One looks like yours. One looks like a HUGE blue Sumatra. It's an experiment for larger, brownish/tan eggs. Plus the only chicken I own that is NEARLY as smart as a Sumatra, is my Black Austrolop. If it all works out well, I'll breed some more, in a seperate pen, just for the egg sales business.

Thanks, all. It's fun to play "name this type of chicken." So far, she's a good bird that has Sumatra characteristics and Australorp characteristics. I hope she gives me some nice eggs soon. Even if she doesn't she will probably hang out and be a pet. My favorite bird is a 8 month old black star that has yet to give me an egg. /sigh

That does sound like a great mix, and I'm sure you'll get lots of eggs. That's very odd for a black star not to be laying yet.
