Sumatra Thread!

Wow excellent bird! Did you keep her parents or did you sell them?
Thank you. I still have her parents. The dad is my black male that I hatched and he is huge. I really like him but he is not dark enough to show due to lack of sunlight in his breeder pen. I'm hoping to get him some sun and show him. The mom is one of my 4 black hens either hatched by me or from Tom. One of the possible moms is the hen I posted a pick of that won in October.

Thank you once it gets warmer I'm hoping to put her in my black breeder pen. The funny thing is I hatched so many chicks this year that most of my Sumatra LF were either blue or roosters that one day I looked in a brooder and saw her and I was like where did u come from lol. I'm very excited to see how she fills out.

Hi all, sorry I haven't been on for a while we've had no electricity. The weather has been bad.
how are all of you?
All my chicken are good, I still have not got a broody, but I am well set up for when I have a broody.
I made a wooden structure to suspend the pekins feed, and a feeder for the pekins. When the pekins feed they stay on the outside and when they have chicks, the chicks will be able to go inside and feed without intervention of the weather.

And a picture of the father of the youngsters, does anyone know why his tail feathers are so rough, a judge at a show told me that lice can do damage to feathers is this true?

Raph, lots of things can cause damage to feathers: bugs, mice, fighting, muddy areas, other birds pecking. It's nice to hear from you. Sorry you were out of power, hope it stays on for you and that you have a broody soon.
