Sumatra Thread!

I like him a lot, if i had the opportunity i would get some cubalaya. How much do cubalaya cost to buy?

Hey y'all.

How are Sumatras in their temperament toward other chickens? I seem to have mixed opinions on that. I have heard that they are tolerant of other chickens, and I have heard that they are aggressive toward other chickens. What is your experience?

I am getting some Sumatras this July and would really appreciate your input. BTW, I am getting bantam Sumatras from Ideal Poultry. Has anyone had experiences with them--good or bad?

God bless,
~Gresh~

Hello! Sumatras are exactly the same as any other chicken. The bantams are no exception either. They are great with other chickens because they are chickens. They have some qualities that make them seem different as far as their flight abilities are greater. You will like them alot. Good luck!

As said above, they are like any chicken. I have some that blend in fine, then I have some that will kick butt. I also have this in my silkies, a little more so in the kick butt department though

. Good luck with your new birds.

My babies are about 8 weeks now and I see very little comb and I don't think they have qny pointy hackle feathers. Beth tails look the same. Am I safe to assume girls? I need to take/post new pics.

I was sitting with the birds before bed las night and they both decided to fly up and sit in my lap. They are first to come running when I go to the coop. I think I am really goig to like them. My hubby is not going to like how well they fly, however.:D

you definitely cannot go by combs, tails, spur nubs, or even neck hackle feathers. I believe that was said before. Get a picture of the top of the back....looking straight down on them if you can up close. At 8 weeks you can tell gender very well, but you look for sickles not the neck hackle. Its sometimes first covered by the shoulder feathers and need to part the wings to look. :)
