Sumatra Thread!

you definitely cannot go by combs, tails, spur nubs, or even neck hackle feathers. I believe that was said before. Get a picture of the top of the back....looking straight down on them if you can up close. At 8 weeks you can tell gender very well, but you look for sickles not the neck hackle. Its sometimes first covered by the shoulder feathers and need to part the wings to look.

Any chance you have an example pic you could post? I will try to get some tonight. Darn these breeds that are late to sex!

I am still trying to figure out my silkie. Dorkings and Salmon Favs are great because you can feather sex and the Arucanas and cochins roos developed quickly. I am just impatient!

lol I hear ya. Should be very soon now. :) I don't have any birds at that age range, but I will try and take a picture for an example picture on a much younger one I have later....that is unless someone beats me to it.

Got some nice lacing going. You have to do an updated picture once its mature.
Thanks I will. This is my first year with blue bantams. I have two breeding pens set up, my trio of blues and all my bantam splash hens over my best black male. I am really happy with some of the results. Espeacily this one. I have not really had any chicks with this much lacing at a young age so I can't wait for them to grow.
