Sumatra Thread!

]Flyin-Monkey-Dung,

This is probably a stupid question....but, I'll ask anyways ;) Why black to Dunn vs any other Dunn cross? Wouldn't black to Dunn eliminate your chances for any khaki birds? I only ask because a tend to drool a little over khakis.

Thanks!

We have done dun x dun a few times in the past. I too love khaki but for some reason they don't seem as vigorous as dun or black. Plus it is just easier to keep black males and colored females so we don't have to worry about platinums.

@sumatrass update on your little chicks? :)
so far so good i think im about 80% @_@ sure we got a trio im super exited they are coming along great. They love to fly and they are only 2 months going on 3, Its crazy how far they can get yesterday one of them made it from the top of the coop to the roof of my hose and its about 15-20 feet :)

Im starting to build my coop for my 3 sumatras, I was thinking of a 5x4x6 pen, I plan on letting them out in the afternoon only, will this be enough space for 3 sumatras (im limited with space) I figured 6 feet tall so i can walk in there and clean without hitting my head every time like i do with my 4 foot tall coop that i have now and also because i can put a perch pretty high so they can fly and hang out. what do you guys think?

Good luck with the coop building, I agree with being high enough so you don't bang your head. That's the one thing I am changing about my pens , house was high enough but not the outside runs.

Sorry have not posted here in awhile it has been very crazy around here with show season starting. Yesterday was the NJ State 4-H Poultry Show.

I won champion bantam and Super Grand Champion of the Show with a golden Sebright hen.
And to my surprise I won Grabd Champion Waterfowl and Reserve Super Grand Champion of the Show with my Gray Rouen Hen
