Sumatra Thread!

well, at first i thought he was a hen and i thought my hen was a cock, but his tail feathers grew out more so that is when i new he was a rooster, i cant remember the exact age i could tell, but i think mine were 2 or 3 months.

el bruto @ 17ish days

and el bruto @ 6 weeks

walking

stretching

grooming, I really like el bruto, he might be the rooster I keep due to his size but the bottom of his feet are not all yellow. one of his feet is half black and I know I have another lil male that is mostly yellow on both his feet so its hard to decide

Sumatras are to have yellow feet bottoms as they have yellow skin. A bird with white skin has pink/ white feet bottoms. White skin on a sumatra is a DQ if you are looking at showing your birds.

so ,I was checking my sumatras today, they have free range days and days when they are in a pen. they all have yellow feet! to my surprise. I guess I had a few with lightcolored feet but now all their feet are yellow. is change in leg and feet color normal? does the scales on their feet get lighter and darker some times?

I've had chicks with yellow up their leg end up as adults with it only on their soles. Hens with yellow skin will lose some of the pigmentation as they go through their egg laying cycle. When they molt and stop laying eggs for a while, they will regain it. Age and health of the bird can affect it as well.
