Sumatra Thread!

I've had a few chickens do that,

scares the crud out of me.

Yep,that's my Sumatra's too. Let out a scream/screech which is often followed by a bite on the arm. Never aggressive to me when in their pen, just when I catch them for any reason. Wouldn't trade them though, striking birds.

Does any one have Sumatras with black skin?

A true sumatra should not have black skin...It should be yellow, except for the shanks and toes.

that is what I thought. BUT google search, there is reference to the original imported Sumatra's having black skin. Mine don't.

Are the bantams also flightly like *the* full sized ones?

not at all, I've never seen a bad flighty LF either though. My bantams virtually run to the gate to see me, then you have to kick them out from under your feet to avoid stepping on them. Never been aggressive at all, never bowed up at me, nothing, just an all around good long tail

that's what I always thought. Mine have yellow skin. But the internet is full of hatcheries and sites that say Sumatra's have black skin. I assume just more mis information on these birds. But you never know. Could Americans have bred the skin color out of them?

Thankyou , they sound like they'd be interestibg to deal with, how's their curiousity level? I've noticd some breeds and bloodlines are more curious than others, my experience comes from an Appaloosa mare and her foals. I don't think curiousity is limited to one species or another.
