haha you seen that crazy crap too!!!

No I sell if they are decent ( a cull to me is often a great bird to others) or give them all away if they are mongerals

Yea I saw that! Good thing I joind up with the ZCC (zombie combat command) after I got out! Z-hunter registration fees are 1/2 price with my ZCC card! Lol
So I take it that you haven't tried the meat?

I already know all about long tails and how you can kick yourself when selling young birds. We didn't get around to sorting birds today since we had a farmers market. I figure I'll go through them a few at a time this week. Like I said, combs and feet color can help at this age but type/color will have to wait. On some of the duns, the color is already showing some so I can pick out the birds that have lacing or are too dark for my liking (I like a nice milk chocolate color) since the darker ones don't tend to lighten up enough for me. In July/August I'll try to cull down to my top 10 of each sex that will be culled down to the best 2-3 trios by September. The first culling birds will go to a traders place, the second batch of culls later in the season will be sold as potential breeder birds, and the last cull birds will probably be sold at shows

A few pics of my growing Duns and Platinums.

Her face is really dark, she is the lightest in color of the bunch though.

Cockerel.

With flash to show his color a bit better.

Michael, it's funny that you mentioned this as I was going to ask whether or not we should see lacing on these colors. The Duns only really show very faint lacing in the females I have, I haven't seen much on the cockerels. Do we not want to perpetuate this? I'm guessing it's caused by the pattern gene that's been introduced by breeding in Blue birds?

Here's one of my Platinums, the lacing doesn't show to well in the picture but in person she is very laced, her lacing being a faint brown color.

Great looking pullets! And the cockerel NICE! They all have the dun in them? Sent you a pm about the 4mo! Thanks!

I will have to check the standard later but I don't think dun (chocolate in the SOP) is supposed to have lacing like the blues. My original dun hen has slight lacing but nothing like blues. Since they are still a 'new' color that not many folks have I am sure there will be variation. I know another breeder who is selecting his duns to have lacing like his blue birds but to me when they are heavy laced, they look too much like a sunbleached blue. But they are your line and you should breed what you like as far as that goes
