Sumatra Thread!

My sumatras are very calm and show every time they go in a show cage. I have seen judges have harder times handling Plymouth Rick, Jersey Giants, and Austrolops when I was clerking then the Sumatra

:thumbsup   well said. The only thing I would add is "Normal" for Sumatra's is acting Pheasant like and slightly feral. Read the literature from the mid to late 1800's. That is "normal" for Sumatra's. My goal is to keep my birds more how they originally were when they were "discovered". Not turn them into something else.

That is my thought. I enjoy their wildness. We have faverolles and marans for calm chickens. Not to turn this thread thqt way, but having a calm sumatra is like having a pit game that is great with any other rooster, justnot right. We do have a hen that is special, she hates all the other chickens amd flies onto our shoulders when we feed. Other than that, the rest of the flock is awesome as far as attitude and temperment

sarge that really really sucks. Let me know whenever you are ready I'll hook you up. Sorry to hear that. When I did hatch and brood myown birds I used a big brooder and a heat lamp at each end. Just in case something like that happened. Something to think about.

Ok so i have a question about the standard, It says multiple spurs are standard...is there a specific number or is it just more the better? My guy is about 1-1.5 yrs old and has 3-4 forming and I'm waiting ever so patiently for them to get even more and bigger!
