I have heard alot of good things about the Hovabator.

Still need to get some new pics of my girls.
We had quite a storm this past weekend so I dindnt get out
with the camera... Need to take some pics of interesting crosses
out of my hackle pen, work on the garden, build more pens,
the list goes on & on!!!!

After posting about how I love them beig wild, I was trying to catch a pullet to wash for show and she flew right at me and hit me in the eye socket. Now I'm sure I will have a black eye but its worth it, I definitley prefer them being semi feral than dumpy and hawk food. Just had to share for a good laugh

lol, yeah I learned early on never go to pick one up without the proper eye protection. I had to grab one 2 days ago. Didn't get pecked or anything but man did she scream at me. Getting the other 70 something going while at it.

you know if that chicken was friendly it would be a lot easier on you and that chicken. because you have to struggle to hold it and that hen has to struggle trying to get away from you. if I where you I would be carful about not taming your chickens only because if you are not careful you can really hurt that chicken and you can really hurt your self too. I had a friend who had very wild chickens and she ended up in the emergency room from a hen pecking her eye out. she is doing fine with one eye but it was horrible and still is.

she wishes now that she had tamed her chickens.

Thanks BBB, I'm really hoping to show for the first time this summer. Sorry to hear about the black eye FMP! It's funny but prob didn't feel too funny at that moment haha. For this breed I guess the feral life is more suitable for them. Today standing outside there was a Cooper's hawk coming over from like 100 yrds away and my roo was screeching and running in the coop! They are very witty and alert. I'm surprised looking like crows from a distance they could attract any predators like that.... My little D'uccles wouldn't stand a chance out there:(

It's not like she attacked me but I had her cornered and she saw the way out. With all of our chickens, once you catch them, they calm right down. Sure they scream, but they never try to get away once you have a hold of them. I'll continue breeding ours the way I like them and you can breed yours the way you want them. Pictures can only show a bird so much and even at shows they can act differently. Just like some judges really don't know how to judge sumatras, some can judge them and have an eye for the breed.
