Sumatra Thread!

this is exactly what he says in showbirdbid I think it is clear on what he was talking about.
Well coming from Doug Akers ( the president of the Sumatra Association) I would hope he is talking about the body size/ height, not the weight. And that is how I had read what he had written. Because if he is encouraging breeders to not go by the weight listed in the SOP, he is wrong. And any breeder (no matter how big/small of a breeder they are) that says to not go with the weight in the SOP for any breed, is wrong.

On the south is really common to see America games in hennie feather
I have seen hennie feathered orientals on aseel ,ganoi,Thais they been around for years
I think some breeders don't breed hf to hf for genetic defects if you keep breeding in a line breeding.
Not sure.
One of my hen is from so many oriental crosses she has frog eyes, hennie feathered.

coop-scoop-boogie.
I haven't. Hatched any chicks yet from the NN Sumatras cross , they are too young yet
Hope I get some this year.

Quote: I am sorry but it sounds like to me that 5lbs and 4lbs is a lot bigger than what we all think and it is true I am seeing birds that are way to small for the standard size. IF THEY ARE LISTED AS LARGE FOWL THEY SHOULD BE BRED LIKE A LARGE FOWL that is what he is trying to say. I think is says that in the standard of perfection I have to look again. so you can take the advice that is from a master or you can take the advice from some one on the internet...

Ahh, so you agree he is not talking about the WEIGHTS of the birds like YOU SAID he was in the earlier post. Because I agree, there is a difference in the body size/height of large fowl and bantams.

I had read it before you even added the link, which is why I had said that I took it as him saying the body size/height not the weights. But in your return post to Infnityhrt you had added that "in the show room alot of the birds they are seeing are under weight in the large fowl". But, it does not matter to me how you read it. I am just trying to keep the right information on this thread for the people who want to learn how to bred sumatras to the SOP. As you keep saying, I will take advice from a long time breeder over something someone puts on the internet that I know is not right.

Your welcome

Hens hennie feathered saddle feathers are more rounded than normal hens feathers.
That's one thing to look for in hens some roosters will have a mix of hennie feathers and rooster feathers most when only one parent was hennie feathered
