Sumatra Thread!

I did one big cull and got rid of about 60. I constantly cull for color on my whites and black birds so I've probably culled in excess of 200 birds to this point. Still many more to go.

Unfortunately a friend in Southern California got hurt and had to get rid of their birds, they still had a lot left over so my parents bought all them off of the family to resell. They went to the show with 20 and came home with 110

My birds have attended two shows with my parents so far this year. I have been extremely busy with school, and can't spebd the weekend away from home.

The show season is actually going well, and bad at the same time. Two weeks ago I won reserve largefowl open with an Australorp cockerel, and found him dead on Tuesday, just before it was time to get a bath for this weekend. So I couldn't sent him, but his half brother took reserve open English this weekend, and the judge had nothing but good things to say about my other two males, except they still need to finish growing in their hackles. I'll be attending my first show with my birds in two or three weeks, I have to look at my calendar.

Hope all is going well for everyone else's season!
Sorry about your friend, I hope they recover soon. Congrats on your shows. Sorry about your rooster. Hope you have fun when you finally get to go to the show with them.

Thanks for all that info on shipping, i think i might just try finding blue sumatra eggs in England.
And my rhode island red has a lot of character heres a picture for you.

That's Roy the Rir

I think she is a hen.

let me know if you need any help finding any over there Ralf. Im friends with about as many European breeders as I am with US breeders. We can track em down one way or the other for you. There is also a facebook group for sumatras based over there. Might want to look it up and get on it. That would be the best way to find other breeders in your area

I'll have a look, if i get Blue Sumatra's for Christmas or in spring ill be the happiest man on earth. I'm looking forward to spring, I'm going to breed as much chicken as possible without breaking the bank.

How are all your chicken?
My young Sumatra hen was the first hen to greet me when i let them out. I'm going to make a pet out of that hen.
She is considerably small compared to her brothers, is that normal?
Will the chicks be stronger if they free range, or would they be stronger if they are reared in a coop indoors?

Hi everyone! I just read through the Sumatra thread and wanted to introduce myself. I live in New Hampshire with eight Sumatras. Really enjoying them, they follow me around and watch everything I do!
