Sumatra Thread!

My standards are pretty quiet, the three and four year olds crow maybe twice a week, although the younger one's pretty proud of his big hoarse voice.
I don't think the bantam rooster ever shuts up, though. Not only nonstop crowing (the mutt son of this one is even worse) but every other little vocalization chickens make, the purring, the ticking, the wolf calls.

Henferno spotted MY photos on the bottom of their sumatra page (thanks again henferno!)

I wrote to them, and their reply was....
"We don't have Sumatras, sorry."

Well according to their website they are promoting MY blue sumatra.

I don't know who they are, and from my experience a lot of their info on Sumatra's is wrong. Particularly the "breeding season " part. Any time of year my girls go broody, they hatch chicks. And the roo's are ALWAYS mounting the girls. NOT just for 3 or 4 months.
I once google searched "sumatra images" and about 30% of the pics were of my birds. I bet that is what happened here. He did just that, and liked your girl. Still wrong but...

I thinking... some people are just scummy. We'll just do the best to black the names of those who steal--running someone's reputation down, if they deserve it... well, it works, sometimes. (I always Google images of birds before I buy hatching eggs--it the picture is stolen, I'll announce it.)

Also, Peachick--their entire banner is filled with Feathersite images, and they never linked back or even mentioned it. What a joke...

Another thing I've found is people saying the roosters are aggressive, saying they have black skin, saying you can't keep two males together, that they are "longtails," that they are bad layers, and that they roam like peacocks. Not saying this might not have happened for someone or another, but none of these are defining breed characteristics. Most people I know who keep Sumatras, including myself, have experienced none of these traits.

He's ugly, and I type I strongly dislike, but he poses beautifully and his feather quality is awesome, so he's in the developing breeder pen in spring along with the two Kernan girls.

Bear again, the Kernan boy (I hatched out a perfect trio! What's cooler than that?)

Azula's going to do great things when she's a little older, I think. This is her first adult molt, and they always look better in their second and third years.
