most likely girls if they are without spur, but an greenish shine to the feather is usually a male trait, though some of my black girls have a green tint at times

Nice score!Today we took some birds to an old traders place. Just random odds & ends like a faverolle mix, a d'anver x sumatra, and a smooth faced araucana. The plan was to take birds there and not bring any home and we all know how that works. First I saw a nice looking black sumatra hen so I grabbed her for a new blood line. Then I saw a runty khaki sumatra chick that almost has the type of a bantam so we got him. Then a couple black sumatra cockerels that were following us around didn't look too bad so I got them just to see how they turn out. Then I saw a bantam that looked like a cockerel with great sheen so I grabbed it, great yellow bottoms, multiple spur bumps, small good comb, and good type. It looked like a cockerel because it almost has secondary sickles but when I got it home I thought it sounded feminine so I checked, sure enough it is a pullet. I got a few other birds too, but that will be posted on their breed threads.
We have always taken birds to the trader and been able to add to our lines with other breeders birds but for $5 a bird instead of $40
That's awesome that you and your mom share your love of your birds!!!I am pretty happy with it. Sure, we're going into fall and should be getting rid of birds but you can't pass up good birds for $5 each. We were able to just trade the 3 right across so we only had to pay $20. My madre is my enabler and I am hers. The whole way there, we said we were NOT bringing home birds but it was almost like retail therapy being there and seeing all those birds!
Hi I have been showing and breeding my sumatras. I have blue, black, and splash sumatras.![]()
I am so happy that they have this I have been looking for different blood lines to breed to my sumatras for a very long time.
here are some pics of my hens my roosters are still molting.
her face is light but she has a very large head which is what you want to look for in a sumatra.
