Sumatra Thread!

Today we took some birds to an old traders place. Just random odds & ends like a faverolle mix, a d'anver x sumatra, and a smooth faced araucana. The plan was to take birds there and not bring any home and we all know how that works. First I saw a nice looking black sumatra hen so I grabbed her for a new blood line. Then I saw a runty khaki sumatra chick that almost has the type of a bantam so we got him. Then a couple black sumatra cockerels that were following us around didn't look too bad so I got them just to see how they turn out. Then I saw a bantam that looked like a cockerel with great sheen so I grabbed it, great yellow bottoms, multiple spur bumps, small good comb, and good type. It looked like a cockerel because it almost has secondary sickles but when I got it home I thought it sounded feminine so I checked, sure enough it is a pullet. I got a few other birds too, but that will be posted on their breed threads.
We have always taken birds to the trader and been able to add to our lines with other breeders birds but for $5 a bird instead of $40

Nice score! :)

I am pretty happy with it. Sure, we're going into fall and should be getting rid of birds but you can't pass up good birds for $5 each. We were able to just trade the 3 right across so we only had to pay $20. My madre is my enabler and I am hers. The whole way there, we said we were NOT bringing home birds but it was almost like retail therapy being there and seeing all those birds!

. Hope your new ones work out for you, cant wait for pictures. I'm waiting for my dun and black roos to regrow their tails, so I can take some pictures of them.

Everything is molting now for us but it is that time of year. The khaki will be used regardless of size, we will be working on dun bantams and this will take us a few steps ahead, otherwise we have a 1/2 bantam 1/2 LF dun hen that will be bred to a small bantam black. Even if he is LF, he will be a welcome addition to the flock. He has nice dark legs but like all khaki sumatras, his face is slightly lighter. It is still purple but more of a red tint than the normal black like the dun and blacks

Hi I have been showing and breeding my sumatras. I have blue, black, and splash sumatras.

I am so happy that they have this I have been looking for different blood lines to breed to my sumatras for a very long time.
here are some pics of my hens my roosters are still molting.

her face is light but she has a very large head which is what you want to look for in a sumatra.
