"Yup. In fact, right when you said that..." The pine trees suddenly opened up into a clearing. Hollows were carved into the trees surrounding the clearing, and birds were coming to and fro. Most of them were game birds, like Maplewing, and some of them even had wing blades and battle claws like Maplewing did.

Rowan's eyes were drawn upwards away from Maplewing towards the towering trees and their occupants. The group which she had grown up with was tiny in comparison to RavenFlock, their sheer numbers nearly overwhelming to the 'small town' bird. She felt the smallest amount of intimidation, but showed nothing of it externally as Maplewing led her deeper into the camp.
