Hello you two out west!

Katy-Glad you got at least a LITTLE rain. Maybe there will be more to come. I know the first two weeks in June can be some pretty wet ones. Even if it is too late for the wheat, maybe it will help the pastures and ponds. We got quite a bit of rain last night, but the big story was the WIND. When I came home from work this morning at 3:30a.m. the wind and rain were blowing so hard I thought it was going to blow me off the step before I could open the door. The brome grass was blowing in swirls and the rain was coming across instead of down in sheets. Reminded me of some hurricane pictures I've seen.

Shellie-Sounds like you have had your hands full. Hope you able to get caught up soon. Sounds a little like me..... more projects than I have time, money or energy for, but it seems like I've always got time to add more potential projects!

Everyone--I am going to have some really nice ameraucanas to thin before long. I have black, wheaten, silver and LAVENDER! Wish I could keep them all, but that's not possible. I have 3 pairs of wheaten, and I'm not sure of the sexes yet on some of the others. These all came from John Blehm (Mr. Ameraucana) and Jean Ribbick, Ameraucana breeders club president. I will post some later on when I get closer to knowing how many I want to keep.

I was hoping I'd have more black copper marans, but with power failures and incubator failures I've not had very good luck hatching. I still don't have the numbers I want, but hopefully I will have a successful hatch before long.

I've got guinea eggs in lockdown right now that should be hatching in the next couple days. We will see. These were some that were in the incubator when the power went out, so I'm not holding my breath.

Am I still first in line here? We can't wait to come pick up birds from ya, looks like we're in Seneca for the 8 & 9th to help out around the farm!

Good luck with those in lockdown, after the failure here we hatched three beautiful babies on time yesterday! Totally worth the wait!

KansasBoy-Sure! The 8th and 9th should be good for us. The 8th is my birthday, and I've taken an extra day off work, so we should be around then. I'm not sure I will know which ones I want to keep by then, but I'm sure we could figure out something. I hope I have some marans hatched by then, but as I said, I'm not holding my breath. The ones that SHOULD hatch by then are some of the ones that were in the incubator when we had the power out, so they could be kind of "iffy." The eggs are so dark, it's hard to candle them.

The ameraucanas are really nice. I think I can tell some of the roosters and hens, but not with 100% accuracy. The wheatens are obvious. I've got a few other purebred chicks and bantams and a few one year old hens.

I would be interested in some black and/or lavender girls.

Okay--I should have several. It would be good to cross the lavenders with the blacks. That is what most of the breeders recommend to improve type on the lavs.

I just checked the incubator. ONE guinea has hatched, so there is hope.

I sure hope more than one hatches so this one will at least have a buddy. A number of years ago when we hatched those guineas hatched like popcorn.

I put the rest of the eggs in lockdown that were in there when the power went out. About 1/3 of them or so were no good, so I now have marans, golden lakenvelders, and bantam partridge wyandottes in lockdown. Wish me luck!

I have a feeling those Lakenvelders of yours will do very well.

All but two of mine hatched. Very hearty indeed. The Partridge Wyandotte eggs almost remind me of ping pong balls. They are so small and make sweet little chicks.

Hope all turns out well for you despite that pesky power outage.
