sunflower seeds with the shell?

can the chickens eat the black oil sunflower seeds with the shell on them? or do they have to be cracked sunflower seeds?

It's fine! Just make sure to offer grit as they'll probably eat them whole, shell and all!

Also, be careful because some chicken come to see BOSS as chicken crack and will forego regular feed waiting for it! That being said it's good for their feathers/appearance

My flock gets their sunflower seeds with the shell on them. Works well for a treat.

I mix it in my Scratch Grains along with Poultry Grit and Oyster Shells. GC

The sunflower seeds you get as bird food are smaller than the striped sunflower seeds and yes, they are chicken crack. Just FYI, Wikipedia has a really interesting article on sunflower seeds that explains the different types.
