How much sun do chickens need?

I have a suburban home and have a dog run-like space along the side of the house that i fantasize aould be a chicken run. It does not get much sun, especially in the winter. I live in the central valley of CA, so nite temps get to freezing but not usually below, and day temps in the winter are variable but usually 50-60s. it is zone 8 on the hardiness map.

Your thoughts?
Thank you!

You might try going to the managing your flock thread there is some useful information there.
Sorry I can't help
I would rather direct you to those who can.

I'm not an expert on this one, but I'd think you'd be fine with the run you are talking about. I don't know that chickens need a lot of direct sunlight. They need the fresh air and the space. They would be better off in your run in the winter than a lot of flocks that, due to climate, don't get outside much at all in the winter. And they will appreciate the shade in the summer. I say, go for it.
