Super Chocolate Egg Layer question

My SCEL cockerel is doing his "job" right! I'll incubate him X Marans eggs and see what happens :)

Dusty Lavender, could you post a picture of your cockerel? I'd love to see him! Do you also have any females you can post a photo? It's fun to see this type develop but I'd love to see a developed bird too. Thanks!

I have pictures of my chicks at almost 4weeks old. Here they are, thoughts on gender for these? I know it's a bit too early but the combs on these two are so very different for being the same 'mix'.

Hi Pastry Mom!

Unfortunately I only have a roo.
Your white chick looks just like my cockerel.

Ooh he's pretty! I wish I could keep roosters!! Unfortunately if this white one is a roo I'll have to find another place for him to go. :(( I'm crossing my fingers the black one is a female. It sure is a developed pink comb for only 3-4 week old though. I hope your SCEL/Marans mix gives you lots of babies (pullets!)!! More dark eggs!

I was gonna rehome him but he is very nice to humans and hens, so decided to keep him around :)

Hope your black one is a pullet!

Thank you, its comb is not showing any signs of redness or growth yet, so fingers crossed. I'd love to be able to see how 'chocolate' these eggs are going to be from one of these mixed breed. I have two Black copper marans from my previous hatch and they lay very nicely dark eggs. They aren't the friendliest of hens though, and I liked the white feathering of the super chocolate EEgers.... Isn't it ironic then that the two pretty white ones are males and the one black one is my only hope for a female!?! Go figure!

Okay, so update. My black/yellow chick is upwards of 7 weeks old now, and she's looking like a pullet! Yay! However, I am doubting she will lay dark brown eggs. Based on her feathering and an embarrassing amount of internet searches, I believe she is an exchequer leghorn. She has mottled black and white feathering, and looks like every picture I have seen of one! I suppose it's still possible she could be crossed with marans but looks to me she is mostly exchequer. Oh well! I'm glad to have a pretty bird, though, and especially one who will lay lots of any color egg!

Jen, have you hatched your chicks?? I hope you had a great hatch and have cute fuzzies!

Hi, two of super chocolate's and three of my super blue layers hatched 4/8/16. Two of the blue layers came out black! One blue layer came out yellow and both chocolate layers came out yellow. Of course I got the three yellow ones mixed up and don't know which is the blue layers lol. Of the yellow there are two Roos and one hen.
