Supermarket Chick Questions

Wow, good job on hatching. :thumbsup I agree that it look like you have a wild-type (or pharaoh) and a dilute. I had a couple of dilute in my very first batch of quail, very pretty. Unfortunately they were killed by skunks.

I also seem to get more males than females. I've bought from two different breeders and hatched a few batches myself. Each time there were way more males. I thought it was just bad luck but I guess maybe not.

Yes they’re only meant to be for eating! As far as I know they are not meant to be fertile but I read an article online about a woman who’d managed to hatch a quail from the supermarket so decided to try it myself. Can’t really believe it worked!
That’s amazing, well done for saving these lucky little peepers! If I ever come across quail eggs I’ll try to save some now.

Thanks everyone :) I recommend trying it if you can, very exciting when it works!

Skunks!!? How sad :( I think all I will have to worry about is the neighbours cat and the odd fox around where I live!

To be honest I’m half hoping for 1 male and 1 female, just so I have a great excuse to try hatching some more fluff balls :D:D

Thought I’d add in a few photos from when they hatched! sorry for bad lighting:
