Hi,
Currently I have a few backyard hens which produce lots of eggs, but I’m looking to expand my flock a bit further to maybe start supplying the eggs to local cafes in my area. I understand this is the beginning of straying away from backyard chickens... but I think its a step in the right direction for animal welfare and egg quality in businesses.

I am wondering if anyone else has had any experience with doing this in the UK and what steps I need to take in order to start selling eggs publicly and small commercial businesses.

Any advice, support or stories would be greatly appreciated with the next step in my venture. I would love

hello @Pictorhens !
you will need to register with your local authority and the APHA: guidance and forms here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/egg-production-site-registration
It is a bit intimidating at first sight, but when you get down to it, is straightforward, and free (unlike most other types of registration and licensing these days)! It just takes time to read all the guidance, understand the health and safety issues and regs, ensure your set up conforms to those regs, then put in the forms. Inspectors from the Local Authority and the APHA will arrange a visit in due course (better done before brexit as these staff will be drafted to emergency border duties in event of a no-deal) and if they pass you, you can then sell to third parties like shops and cafes. You will be issued with a sticker with your score on the hygiene scale (1-5, the 'score on the door'), and a number as a producer and a different number as a packer. You then buy a stamp for that number and food grade ink, the former goes on the egg, the latter on the carton.
