Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

I had to share my excitement with other bird moms and dads
My stella the goose laid her first egg yesterday :)))
Much earlier then I expected as it’s December ( winter time )
She has also been asking my ducks to mate her
Poor wallen the ancona has tried but can’t climb on her back 😂
That’s why we got the gander for her
My gander adores her and follows her all day long but isn’t in mate mode yet
He clearly knows the difference between winter and spring !
Her little ancona crew girls have just started to lay eggs and now she is following their lead
She thinks she is a duck 😂
There was some blood streaking but she seems fine and the egg is perfect
You can see wallen try to get on her back
He realizes autumn is much easier
So stella tries to climb on both of them
Good grief stella you are to big !!
Poor gander sits back and watched 😂

Had my geese since April of this year, I don't expect them to lay till then this next year due to winter weather. That is if I have any females, I can't tell which is which.
That’s what I was expecting too
Her laying an egg now was a bit of a shock
I Knew stella was a girl cause my friend had dna testing done right after she hatched them
My gander does sound a bit different
Louder when he does get going
He also follows her around and stands guard at all times

These all follow each other around (all 49) and the 5 geese sound the same since I am partially deaf from war, then you got guinea fowl going off with ducks on top of it on competing on who is loudest. I can't differentiate who is making the noise, rather irritating.
Guess wait and see who drops one if they do.

Most of my girls start laying around midwinter to spring, and are done for the year by summer/when they molt, though it can vary by season and individual.

This last year my Roman “Delphi” started laying around midwinter, laid into spring, then through summer, paused for the molt, then started up again and laid until early fall.
Her daughter had a similar year where she laid longer than usual and resumed laying after the molt but not as prolific as Delphi.
The rest of the girls had a pretty average year so who knows what was going on with Delphi and Tuesday.

Stella is definitely in a cycle
I caught her laying egg 2 today
It’s even bigger at 132 grams
Problem is our winter hasn’t hit yet
A little chilly but we get -30 to -48 C for winter Jan and February
I hope she doesn’t molt during that time
Gander goose saw me coming today and ran right to the duck house to protect stella
He did hiss at me once but settled fast
I didn’t push his limits as I stood back and left her be
I grabbed the egg after she was back outside
I won’t be letting her sit on eggs in winter
