[Valley quail breeder]

California Valley male will be blackhead with a tent of brown and Gambel male will have a brown head similar to the Valley here's a link shows there similarities this should help you to identify the species better good luck..

Definitely not pure id say it favors a butler bobwhite hen with the brown mask in all idk ....

Ok bobwhite didn't realise they crossed over!!

It's what I call "muttley". Got chicken Misbreeds they fun to wait till full grown so you hazard a guess at breeds!!

I don't see a gambel male. The only male pictures I see have a lot of scaling on the chest. Gambel males should have a flat color pattern on the chest with no scaling if they are pure gambels.

Aprophet yes they do. I didn't see that in the pictures either though (I don't think) one made me look twice but i think it was the shadow making the tan/brown look darker.
