Be The Emu . . .
"Yummy! Wow, there's LOTS of them now. Soft and juicy -- pity everyone else likes them too. Hard work, this, keeping them all at bay.
That sister of mine!! Boy, I wonder when she's gonna turn up? How will that go? A few months ago, I whooped her ***. Then -- out o' the blue -- she turns around and whoops MY ***. Go figure!
And when am I gonna find a consort with good DNA? Am I gonna leave the Yummy Tree? Or wait for one to turn up?
I'm gonna peck Wheat Guy! One day. Right while he's giving me yummy wheat, I'll rush him and peck him good -- though there's always the risk that he might no give me anymore wheat. Perhaps I haven't thought this one through.
Days gettin' shorter!! But that means fresh pick. But it means cold nights. I wonder if I can get a feather suit with a zipper on the front. Take it off on summer days. Go swimming nude in the dam. Put it back on in autumn.
Huh!! I'm not jealous of those flying birds. Eating all those figs. I don't LIKE figs more than seven feet off the ground. 7-and-a-half-feet-off-the-ground figs taste disgusting. Everyone knows that. It's obvious, really."
Sassybird Emu ('SE'!!)
Life at The Fig Tree
Felicity hasn't turned up.
Sassybird is guarding her treasure.
Spot and Spottina are in orbit. Even at fifty metres, you can see the 'spot' on the right flank of one of the pair.
Not much other emu activity -- surprisingly quiet.
Some dams dry. No green pick. (Kangaroos are ravaging my garden -- eating the EGGPLANT!!)
First rains should be in about a month.
Lovely to hear Sassybird vocalising at night. Will she find a partner this season? Tune in for further Observations from the Laundry Window!!
