i can't wait to see if my broody bantam fav is having any luck. she went broody last monday and now has 9 eggs under her. with the nice weather these next 2 weeks it should be a great help in keeping the garage coop warm without needing a heater!
good luck and let that broody finish her business and not move her too much!
we arent gonna move her. However is there anything we need to do as far as moving the chicks out to keep them warm or just let momma take care of everything. We have a heat lamp do we need to put it over her she is in the house in a rubber maid bin. We are completely new to this it is our first hatch. We hear the baby peeping so I guess everything is ok for now?
i think if you keep moma hen in the house with the chicks for a week at least they should be warm enough. if they get cold i am sure they would just run under her to regulate their temperatures. but it probably wouldn't hurt to put a red bulb over them to help heat and keep them from picking at each other.
if you have a large dog crate to put mom and chicks in it might help to reintroduce her and the brood back to the main flock.
k so I put the red heat lamp about a foot above the bin just to help keep them warm. As far as putting them all back out there we were gonna build a small enclosure in the coop to keep them in to introduce them to the rest. However will it not be to cold for the babies out there even with momma its been at or below freezing here all month.
